Celebrating little c creativity
In these wild early days of motherhood there hasn’t been much room for Big C creativity - but those little c creative moments are everywhere.
Back in July, I saved this excellent post from Mothers Who Make, inviting readers to join in a scavenger hunt of little creative moments.
It immediately appealed to me. I am a creative person but I have come to realise that my understanding of creativity has been very narrow. I’ve given greater weight to Big C creativity than little c creativity - despite engaging in far more of the latter. In these wild early days of motherhood, my perspective has shifted and it excited me to find ways to acknowledge a greater breadth of creativity.
So, of course, I promptly failed to actually participate in the scavenger hunt.
But that’s okay.
Living a creative life, and being a creative being, has to also mean living a responsive life. Back in July, I was having plenty of little c creative moments but my attention and energy was needed elsewhere rather than recording them. Which just means I now have the joy of revisiting that scavenger hunt post and using it as a prompt to reflect on the moments of mundane creativity that this new season of life has thrown into sharp relief…
Making vegetable aash and fresh bread (from my favourite 1 hour crusty bread recipe!) to feed both my family and my desire for comforting, hearty food.
Creating little sensory play spaces at home to enjoy with my beautiful boy.
Snatching moments to write - often in the notes app on my phone, often interrupted only a line or two in, but writing nevertheless.
Finding small ways to make beautiful moments in our home - despite the ongoing building work! (I’m excited for our current project to be finished so a) hubby can have his evenings and weekends back, b) the building mess will disappear, and c) we can get creative with the beautiful space offered by the new front steps and porch to our home!)
There are so many moments in our day to day lives where we exercise creativity - even in the smallest things. I’m grateful to Heidi at Mothers Who Make for the reminder to celebrate those small c moments and I encourage you to look for them in your own life too.
What are some of your recent creative moments?
Thank you for reading, friends.
Go gently.

Oh these are so beautiful! X
Love this Jen, we are on the same page! Thank you for sharing your beautiful creative moments with us, love the sound of your bread recipe. This week I put some dahlias in a vase, dotted some small pumpkins around which brightened up our entrance and felt seasonal too! xx
