Your Vote. Our Future.
A plea to all to exercise your right to vote in the UK today and demand the change we all desperately need and deserve.
It’s election day, here in the UK. Long awaited. Much anticipated. Desperately needed. For 14 long years, the Conservative Party have held the governing power in Britain and in that time they have made our country almost unrecognisable. Our public services have been decimated; poverty and food bank use is at an all time high; hate crimes have risen; we’ve failed to meet our climate commitments- the list goes on. Even in areas where the Tories have historically been considered strong - such as the economy- things are pretty dire, and the cost of living crisis is being felt by all but the wealthiest, who continue to hoard financial gains.
The country is anticipating a significant Tory defeat. This is my plea to you to take nothing for granted!
We must not be apathetic. We must not assume the change we desire will happen without every single one of us exercising our right to vote. We must actively participate in the democratic process and demand the future we want.
Vote tactically if you must. Vote with your conscience where you can. But please, please get out to the polls and vote.
YOUR VOTE MATTERS!
I know that it’s hard to trust in the political process when it seems to have failed us so often. I know it’s easy to feel disillusioned with politicians in general when we have seen so many of them lie again and again. It sometimes feels like our democracy is in tatters but it remains one of the most powerful vehicles for demanding change.
None of the options are perfect but we mustn’t forget that they work for us. Voting for any one party is not a tacit endorsement of every policy they have - it is a means of saying ‘I believe you offer the best opportunity for enacting the change I want to see’. And once in office, we can and must hold them to account!
Petition. Protest. Participate.
Democracy is not passive and whilst it might begin in the polling booths, it certainly doesn’t end there.
So get out and vote today - vote for a fairer, greener, more secure future for everyone. And then remain engaged and proactive in demanding better from our political class.
Go gently, friends, and vote well!
